Part 9 residential work in this province moved to Tier 2 for permits received from 1 April 2026. The path runs on points, and a project needs ten.
Getting the building under 2.0 air changes an hour is worth 3.5 of them on its own, confirmed by a blower door test once the sealing and the openings are complete.
Foam is an air barrier from the moment it is installed, which is why it carries so much of that load within a single trade. Worth settling before the assemblies are locked in rather than afterwards.
Where It Goes In A New Build
The band at every floor level, which is the hardest place in the building to seal by any other means.
Below grade walls and slab perimeters, where vapour control has to come from the insulation itself.
Vaulted and cathedral ceilings, which have no depth for a vented assembly and no way back in once they are closed.
Bonus rooms, overhangs and any floor above unheated space.
Roofs complicated enough that venting them correctly is not realistic.
Mixed Assemblies Are Often Better Value
Foam everywhere is not automatically the best answer. A frequent arrangement lays a thin pass of closed cell right on the sheathing so it carries the air and vapour duty, then packs out the remaining depth with a cheaper material.
That buys a continuous air barrier where it counts and puts the rest of the budget into depth, which is where depth is what you actually need.
We set the options against the target rather than quoting the most expensive assembly by reflex.
Fitting The Sequence
Foam follows the mechanical and electrical rough-in and precedes the boarding. Get that order wrong and something ends up buried or something ends up cut back out again.
We take a slot in the programme, confirm the day before, and hand the space back trimmed flat and ready.
