About Us

About Cape Breton Spray Foam Insulation

Insulation Is The Whole Business

Cape Breton Spray Foam Insulation is a spray foam contractor covering the island. We are not also a roofing company, or a window company, or a general renovator. Insulation is all of it, and that is a deliberate choice.

Foam is manufactured on site. It arrives as two liquids and becomes insulation in the instant it leaves the gun. Temperature, proportion, lift depth and the condition of the surface all decide whether the result is a thirty year assembly or an expensive problem.

That is not something anybody gets right occasionally. It comes from doing it constantly.

About Cape Breton Spray Foam Insulation

Certification Is Not Paperwork

Our installers carry current certification through the recognised programme. The material we apply meets CAN/ULC S705.1, the material standard. The way we apply it meets CAN/ULC S705.2, the installation standard.

Two standards exist because good material applied badly is still a failure. The second one is the one that protects the person paying.

We keep a daily log: substrate temperature, conditions, product lot numbers and applied depth. If a question ever arises about a job, the answer already exists on paper.

Getting To A Price

Somebody comes and stands in the space. There is no estimate over the phone, because depth follows from what the assembly has to achieve and nobody can see that down a telephone line.

We measure, check for moisture, read the substrate temperature and identify anything that has to be handled first.

You then receive a written specification: product, depth, areas, the covering that follows, and a single price. Not a range, and not an hourly figure that grows.

The Advice You Might Not Expect

Sometimes foam is the wrong material, and sometimes it is simply the wrong year for it. We say so.

Water coming through a roof gets stopped first. Insulation does not go near it until that is settled.

Where money is tight, we will tell you that the floor band and general air sealing will do more this year than a full basement would, and that the basement can wait.

Where open cell will do the work for half the outlay, we say so instead of quoting the dearer product because it is the dearer product.

Where a space needs covering afterwards, you hear it at quote stage, while it can still change what you decide.

Working In Somebody's House

The space is masked and protected before anything is applied. Anything that should not receive foam is covered.

Foam goes on in measured lifts so it cures correctly, then it is cut back flush so board sits flat against it.

Ventilation is mechanical, and the re-entry window set by the product manufacturer is in your hands in writing beforehand. Nobody goes back in ahead of it.

Offcuts and trimmings leave with us.

What We Install

What We Take On

Spray foam across every part of a building, specified by somebody who installs it rather than somebody who sells it.

Attic finished in spray foam from the ridge down past the eaves

Attic Insulation

More heat leaves through the top of a house than through any other single surface, and the top of a house is also the cheapest place to intervene. Warm air rises, finds the openings around fixtures, hatches, plumbing stacks and wall plates, and departs.

Basement Insulation

Three separate problems meet in a basement. The wall touches wet ground, masonry moves heat readily, and the joint where framing lands on the foundation leaks air right around the building.

Garage Insulation

The garage is the space people most want to be warmer and least often have treated properly. It is also the space whose insulation decides the comfort of a room you are already paying to heat, because whatever sits above it shares a floor with it.
